Makeup Do’s and Dont’s

Anyone who is new to makeup or simply wasn’t taught how to properly apply makeup growing up, will always ask me if they are doing their makeup “right”. There are no right ways, makeup is an extension of your individuality, however there are some guidelines to follow.

Always start with a fresh face and never sleep in your makeup. Prepping the skin in the morning will give you the best application and longevity to your makeup. Finding a skincare routine that works for you is as important as finding the right makeup. Be sure to remove it before you go to bed to avoid clogged pores and premature ageing.

Start with your eye makeup. By doing this, any powder that falls from your eyeshadow, won’t fall onto the foundation you’ve just applied and ruin it.

Get an eyelash curler.

Do your brows. Your brows frame your face. I have long said, if you do your brows, blush, mascara and gloss, you look put together without even trying. Do yourself a favour and see a brow specialist for a tint, wax and lamination. Then all you have to do is brush your brows into place and you look awake and put together.

Brighten and cover only where you need to. You don’t always need a full face of makeup. Focus on the center of the face with a brightening concealer to wake up the under eye and then correct any discolouration through the cheeks to give the skin a refined glow without the heaviness of a full face of makeup.

Start here with the basics and then have fun experimenting with product and looks you like! Still not sure where to start? Book a makeup lesson for a customized makeup recommendation.
